There are three types of empathy. Cognitive empathy is the idea of placing yourself in someone else's situation and thus gaining a better understanding of their experience.
Emotional empathy is described as when you feel physically along with the other person, as though their emotions were contagious.
The last is compassionate empathy. With this kind of empathy not only can you understand a person’s predicament and feel with them, but are spontaneously moved to help.
